Event Highlights: 2023 Summer Launch Party
Third time is the charm! The 2023 Summer Launch Party exceeded all expectations with the shimmering sun stealing the spotlight. An action-packed itinerary, vibrant atmosphere, delicious meals, and good company made the weekend one to remember. It was an unforgettable extravaganza, leaving lasting memories and anticipation for the next chapter at Roche Harbor in 2024.
Day One
An unforgettable adventure began at the third annual Summer Launch Party, where the high seas come alive with an armada of luxurious yachts of all shapes and sizes converging at the magnificent Roche Harbor Resort. Nestled on the breathtaking San Juan Island, this coastal paradise become a playground of excitement as the radiant sun casts its warm glow upon us. We embarked on a thrilling journey, navigating through the Locks and crossing borders to forge new friendships, rekindle old acquaintances, and join the Worth Avenue Yachts team.
The festivities commenced on the bustling dock, where the air was filled with the aromas of anticipation. Celebrated vineyards Celani and Young Inglewood tantalized our taste buds, generously offering sips of their finest vintages to the eager guests. Amidst the mingling crowd, glasses of Rosé and Merlot in hand, we found Tom Johnson showcasing the remarkable Fendertex fenders from PYI Inc., a must-have for any discerning yachtsman. As we received our coveted gift bags, luck beckoned us to enter raffles from Fisheries Supply, Kenmore Air, Kinona, and PYI, adding an extra dose of excitement to the gathering.
As twilight descends, we gathered at the enchanting Shipwreck Beach for a quintessential beach barbeque. Finding our seats, we break the icy remnants of winter with a series of captivating ice breaker questions, igniting laughter and camaraderie. Fortune favors the fortunate as some revelers are bestowed with stylish new Float2O sunglasses, complete with sunglass cords and towels from the trendsetting Blenders Eyewear, a fitting accessory for the weekend’s adventures. Master Chef Shaw graced us with his culinary prowess, indulging our palates with succulent Barbeque Baby Back Ribs, delectable Potato Salad, and 24-Hour Smoked Wagyu Brisket, satisfying our cravings.
The night takes an exhilarating turn as a friendly cornhole competition ignites a fiery spirit of competition, filling the air with cheers and applause. And as the evening draws to a close, we gather around a crackling bonfire, delighting in the timeless tradition of roasting s’mores. Stories intertwine with dreams as we share our future cruising plans, fueling the passion that binds us all.
Day Two
Friday morning ignited as we gathered on the dock, ready to embark on a thrilling day of adventure. The air buzzed with excitement as we indulged in a spread of fresh griddle cakes and sparkling mimosas.. Meanwhile, Lori Eastes from Worth Avenue Yachts with Kristin Alley and Stacie Leslie from Marsh McLennan captivated our attention, unveiling priceless knowledge about insurance and risk management that every boater should possess. It was a feast for both the senses and the mind, fueling our enthusiasm for the day ahead. And so, with our spirits soaring, we set off for McMillin’s, where Chef Shaw awaited, poised to astound us all with his culinary wizardry in the realm of sous vide cooking.
The journey into epicurean paradise commenced with a Rhubarb Mimosa, serenading our palates with its delightful fusion of flavors, while our ears feasted on the revelation of the simplicity of crafting gourmet meals while sailing the open waters. Our taste buds continued their voyage with a resplendent Classic Spinach Salad, exquisitely adorned with a luscious Honey Mustard Dressing and crowned by a Slow Poached Egg, a harmonious symphony of textures and tastes. Yet, the pinnacle of pleasure awaited us as we succumbed to the temptation of the impossibly tender, succulent, and smoke-infused Barbeque Baby Back Ribs, a revelation that left us breathless, our senses dancing in ecstasy. But Chef Shaw was not finished enchanting our palates, for he unveiled his pièce de résistance—the Perfect Sous Vide Steak, a succulent masterpiece bathed in the allure of Coffee Fennel Butter and accompanied by a generous serving of freshly cooked French fries, leaving us satiated beyond measure. As the grand finale, a divine Sous Vide Cheesecake adorned with a zesty Lemon-Berry Sauce graced our eager taste buds, rendering the experience truly unforgettable.
Fuelled by the exhilaration of our culinary journey, we ventured towards the dock, where a floating green awaited us in the distance ready for the Chip and Sip. Anticipation filled the air as we claimed our chipping wedges, aligning ourselves for the challenge ahead. With only three chances, we summoned our focus, each swing a testament to our determination. As the competition unfolded, Blue Ice cocktails flowed generously. Huckleberry Vodka Lemonades and Vodka Tonics delighted our taste buds, their vibrant flavors rivaling the triumphs of the winning shots. Each successful chip garnered Worth Avenue Yachts’ generous donations to the Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center, resulting in an astounding contribution of over $3,000, a testament to the spirit of camaraderie and generosity that thrived among us, touching the lives of families and individuals residing on San Juan Island.
Having conquered the greens, we migrated to the opposite end of the dock, where an array of hors d’oeuvres awaited. Our senses rejoiced as we delved into a Mac and Cheese Bar, an irresistible temptation that left us craving more. Cherrywood Smoked King Salmon Crostini graced our taste buds, their flavors weaving a tale of culinary brilliance. And so, our bellies contented but hearts still yearning for adventure, we found ourselves captivated by the spectacle of knot tying. Competitors lined up, their fingers deftly maneuvering the ropes, creating intricate reef knots, bowlines, and clove hitches. Amidst laughter and applause, the judge bestowed honor upon the finest knots, woven with impeccable style. Yet, the evening’s true hero emerged as a master of throwing lines over cleats with seamless precision, leaving us in awe of their remarkable abilities. Laughter reverberated, mingling with the joy that enveloped the dock.
Day Three
Saturday commenced with another extraordinary day and a breakfast that surpassed all expectations. Chef Shaw, dazzled us with his artistry as he created custom omelets right before our eyes on the dock, a symphony of flavors that danced upon our palates. Accompanied by an array of sizzling bacon, succulent sausages, crispy fingerling potatoes, freshly baked muffins, and an abundance of delectable delights. Amidst this epicurean indulgence, Agent Mark Matthews from U.S. Customs and Border Patrol seized the spotlight, sharing indispensable insights for boaters voyaging between the United States and Canada this summer. With every question answered and expert advice dispensed, our hearts brimmed with confidence as we embarked on our nautical adventures, armed with knowledge and fueled by excitement.
The lime kiln became the epicenter of exhilarating competition as we gathered for a friendly bocce ball showdown. With eccentric team names chosen, we unleashed our competitive spirits, engaging in intense rounds of play that sparked laughter, camaraderie, and a palpable sense of anticipation. Each triumphant team advanced through the ranks, with relentless determination propelling them towards the coveted finals. In the end, two guests emerged victorious, claiming the crown of bocce ball champions and securing bragging rights that would echo through the next year.
Eager for more adventures, we embarked on a tender expedition that carried us beyond the confines of the resort to the enchanting Wescott Bay, where the annual ‘Oysters on the Green’ event awaited. Here, surrounded by breathtaking vistas, we embraced the art of shucking our own oysters, immersing ourselves in the mastery of this timeless culinary tradition. Accompanied by an array of accompaniments and serenaded by the melodic strains of a cellist, we relished the company of kindred spirits, savoring every moment of this gastronomic delight against the backdrop of a mesmerizing views.
Returning to Roche Harbor, the vibrant courtyard beckoned us with its allure, adorned in hues of radiant orange. Aperol Spritzers, effervescent and refreshed our palates as we gathered in anticipation. Ray Prokorym took center stage, announcing the winners of the raffle with an air of excitement before extending a warm welcome to the magnificent buffet that awaited us. The station dinner, a culinary odyssey through five of the world’s most exquisite charter destinations, transported us to the sun-kissed shores of Hawaii, where a succulent whole roast awaited, capturing the essence of paradise in every bite. We then journeyed to New England, where creamy clam chowder stole the spotlight. Our taste buds continued their voyage to Spain, indulging in the vibrant flavors of seafood paella, before embarking on a culinary detour to France, where a riot of colors awaited in the form of ratatouille. Finally, we returned to the cherished embrace of San Juan Island, where a decadent dessert of strawberry shortcake provided the perfect sweet finale. With song choices filling the air and the dance floor ablaze with exuberance, the evening reached its crescendo, leaving us with memories that would forever dance in our hearts.
Day Four
The tranquil Sunday breeze set the stage for the final morning, as vibrant orange and white donuts lined the tables. Amidst the freshly brewed coffee, we bid farewell with a twinkle in our eyes, promising to reunite on the boundless ocean that beckoned us beyond. With lines cast and jubilant waves exchanged, the yachts gracefully embarked on their majestic voyage, disappearing into the horizon, their sails billowing with the promise of endless adventures.
The Summer Launch Party leaves an indelible mark on our hearts, a testament to the extraordinary experiences and unforgettable connections forged amidst the magic of the sea.
